Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time. Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post.
Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!
Our Twitter hashtag is #IWSG
My awesome co-hosts for the August 5 posting of the IWSG will be Nancy Gideon, Bob R Milne, Doreen McGettigan, Chrys Fey, Bish Denham, and Pat Garcia!

I have to admit that I'd rather be "zleeping" too. But, my manuscript needs attention. After a few doses of caffeine each morning, I gear up, strap on my pads, and do battle with words. It's not always easy. That's why, as I near completion of my main WIP, I had to find a mantra for the journey.
- Keep my feet on the ground,
- Keep my head in the game,
- Keep my heart open to instruction,
- Respond with a learning spirit,
- For all of us can improve.
Do you have any suggestions? How do you "get your head into the game"?
Next Week: Polishing, Sanding, and Editing. ;-)
Hi,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the way you deal with taking care of your manuscript. I have on my wall a saying, Attitude - Attack every problem with enthusiasm... As if your survival depended upon it.
And sometimes I need to see this when I am working on my manuscript.
Shalom,
Pat Garcia
Thanks, Pat! I like your saying, too. We do have to take care of our attitude if we're going to write.
DeleteThe thing I try to remember when I'm in the midst of revision (which are my least favorite thing to do) is to remember to HAVE FUN! If it isn't fun, then why spend time on it? There are other things to write, to do.
ReplyDeleteBish, your co-host #128 on the Alex Scale
Thanks for that reminder, Bish! I don't particularly enjoy revision either, but this MS has gathered speed as I need the polishing finish line and I started to enjoy it.
DeleteLove the concept of responding with a learning spirit. Not alway easy to do but so worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Madeline! It is hard, that's why I try to remind myself everyday.
DeleteAttitude makes all the difference. When I'm writing, it's a certain slot of time every day, no matter what. I just make up my mind that I will finish before I even begin. (And I outline to death. That probably helps.)
ReplyDeleteI'll leave the outlines to you, Alex! ;-) Having a goal is key.
DeleteKeeping focused on the goal. The goal is having a finished book in the end, and you have to do whatever you have to do to get there. Revising, re-writing, editing, it's all tedious and not the fun parts of writing - but they all lead to the best part: The finished book.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth, C.D.!
DeleteMore sleep would be lovely, but it feels great to get some writing accomplished, too.
ReplyDeleteSleep! I *knew* I forgot something on that list. :-D
Delete*waving pom poms* Go, you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Deniz!
