Scrivener, By Golly!

~~Have you read writers extolling the delights of Scrivener? To many, it's the ultimate writing tool that helps organize, combine, and link research into one easily accessible place.

~~Well, I've joined the ranks when I down loaded Scrivener for Windows in November. I'm discovering the bells and whistles now and have started moving my FRIENDLY FIRE files to it. So far, I'm creeping along with my hands out in front me in the dark, but I can see the usefulness and anticipate becoming one of the many telling you can't do without this program.

~~While I learn, I'm leaning on the info I've gathered from some writing buddies. Check out Claire's post on All the World's Our Page and Ron's post at the Books and Writers Forum.

And have a wonderful holiday season! May your celebration be bright and joyful.

  1. Merry Christmas! and have fun with Scriviner during the break. A fabulous program.

  2. Merry Christmas to you too, Sarah! I'm working on Scrivener...slowly. ; )

  3. Merry Christmas Zan Marie!
You're brave, starting with Scrivener for a project you already have - maybe I found it easy to jump in cos I started a brand new story to go with my first use of the software. But I wouldn't trade Scrivener for anything, now!

  4. Merry Christmas to you, too, Deniz!
I'm still thinking I'll restart it with a plain file instead of the novel one. I'm only 5 scenes in and it's not too late to scrap and start over. ; )
As I've said, I'm slow in using new software...but once I understand it, watch out! :D

  5. You'll soon be up to speed with Scrivener. I love it, though I don't use all the bells and whistles. I know I can always ask Claire if something comes up!

    Merry Christmas Zan Marie.

  6. I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I should? Hmmm... I've heard so many good things.

  7. Michael, I'm a novice, but I can already see advantages. I'm going to make a reference file of images I've considered for my WIP and have it available to peruse as I write. That in itself will be a plus for me.

  8. Merry Christmas past Zan.

I've played around with 'scrivener but keep going back to faithful Word. I'll be interested to see if you keep it up!

Happy Happy New Year to you!

  9. Denise,
I've used Word to format two books, but I'm finding Scrivener to be fascinating. One of the things I'm doing is creating files to the side for snips of imagery and small scenes that might work within longer scenes. I'm tagging them and think that will help with layering later.

But for all that, I'm also planning to initally write in Word and transfer. There is something to be said for familiarity.

  10. Okay, you're the second person who has mentioned Scrivener to me over the last month, I'm going to have to check it out! Happy new year and here's to a fantastic writing year for all of us!
